MAY 03, 2026 - OTTAWA NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE MONTHLY CENSUS. ROUTES: East Side, Fox Unit (parking lot only), Boss Unit (parking lot only), West Side and Western Prairies and Henry Marsh in the morning; Wildlife Drive in the afternoon (except where closed for eagle nesting). TIME: 7:25am - 12:15pm; 1:30pm - 3:35pm TIME AFIELD: 6:55 TEMP.: 38F ~ 62F ~ 61F COND.: Cool early, turning mostly sunny and windy - west wind steady with gusts to 20mph. OBS. EAST, FOX UNIT, BOSS UNIT: Jim Koppin, Jim Reyda, Al & Betty Schlecht. OBS. WEST: Mary Applegate, Susan Brauning, Katie Clink, Donna Kuhn, David & Kim Myles, Doug Nims, George Novosel, Chris Pierce, Mark Swelstad, Tony Szilagye, Tracy Wiczer. OBS. WESTERN PRAIRIES & HENRY MARSH: Douglas W. Vogus. OBS. WILDLIFE DRIVE: Bob Bartolotta, Jim Koppin, Doug Nims, Jim Reyda, Douglas W. Vogus.

1. Eastern Cottontail - 9 2. Woodchuck - 3 3. Eastern Fox Squirrel - 10 4. American Beaver - 1 (Fourth May Record on Census & Tied Census High from 20 other occasions) 5. Meadow Vole - 1 (Third May Record on Census) 6. Common Raccoon - 4 7. White-tailed Deer - 7 (1 buck,6 does)
II. BIRDS: 104 SPECIES, 3,723 TOTAL. (Recorded since 03/02/1969)
IV. FISHES: 1 SPECIES, 1 TOTAL. (Recorded since 04/07/2002)
