Subject: [hmbirds] Hannacroix Creek Preserve field trip
This morning, about 15 enthusiast birders were greeted by an equally enthusiastic Louisiana Waterthrush singing away down in a babbling brook right next to our meeting place at the Hannacroix Preserve in New Baltimore, the Greene County. Other highlights of our saunta along the trail that goes up in both directions include: Purple Finches, Blue headed Vireo, Rose breasted Grosbeak, Hermit Thrush, lots of Ruby crowned Kinglets, Pileated Woodpecker, a flyover Broad winged Hawk, and half a zillion Goldfinches. A hardy contingent of our group continued down along the trail to the Hudson River where they added Spotted Sandpiper, Northern Yellow Warbler, Blue winged Warbler, Catbird , Bald Eagle, and of course New Baltimore Oriole. As if the vast array of bird species were not enough, we were all treated to a fine display of early spring wildflowers that waited for us along the north facing slopes along the creek trail. ‘twas a nice group of birders, birds, and blooms, without bugs.
