Yellow-throated Warblers have been present in the stand of pine trees at Mt. Hosmer, a city park in Lansing, IA, for approximately 30 years. ( This park provides a tremendous view of the Upper Mississippi River, and construction of our new bridge. )
So, for the first time that we know of, a singing Yellow-throated Warbler was greeting us for at least 3 days where we live on a ridge in Lansing called “Little Hill.” We are something like mid-way on the landscape between Mt. Hosmer and the water in the Mississippi River.. An enjoyable surprise as yard bird # 204.
I thought some IOU members attending the spring conference might want to try for this species in the traditional location at Mt. Hosmer, where it seems to prefer White Pine near Oak trees.
