After striking out on shorebirds at Cohen Marsh earlier this week, I am pleased to report that today the mountain has come to Mohammed. By which I mean we have a very nice showing of shore birds right here, right now in Fairfield at Walton Lake on the north east edge of town. The lake was drained last year for bridge repair work, and is now refilling and has extensive mud flats which today are host to the following: (Numbers are approximate.)
15 LONG BILLED DOWITCHERS
12 Pectoral Sandpipers
20 Lesser Yellowlegs
10 Greater Yellowlegs
5 Killdeer
1 WILLET ( very pale, almost white)
Thanks to Glen Watt for tipping me off to this event and helping me get my shorebird fix.
