Weather: Another nice day of raptor watching, with steady movement and some nice kettles! Cloudy skies to start, clearing in the late morning, then clouding up again in the late afternoon. The winds were out of the south at 10-15mph until the lake breeze kicked in just before 2pm. Temps started in the 30s and reached a high of 51F.
Raptor Observations: A total of 1,759 birds were recorded today. Broad-winged Hawks were the most numerous species with a total of 1,213. Sharp-shinned Hawks were comparatively scarce with only 48 individuals. The more uncommon species seen today were 1 Rough-legged Hawk and 1 Golden Eagle, both in the morning. After the lake breeze kicked in we moved the count to Frisbee Hill. There, we had a consistent flow going over, almost entirely Broad-wings.
Non-raptor Observations: There were a couple flocks of Sandhill Cranes in the morning. The first of season Blue-gray Gnatcatcher flew over the platform and into the hedgerow calling. White-throated, American Tree, and Song Sparrows continue at the seed. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Maili Waters (<mailirwaters...>) Braddock Bay information may be found at: http://www.bbrr.org/
