Many for Birds of Prey Days

Weather:
It was a chilly day with temps starting in the 30s and reaching a high of
44F. Winds were west at 10-15mph in the morning, shifting to NW in the
afternoon. There were some scattered showers in the morning and in the
early evening.

Raptor Observations:
After the rain in the morning passed there was a push of a few hundred
birds, almost entirely Broad-winged Hawks. The flight was over the parkway
and with the northerly component to the winds the birds quickly shifted
farther inland. We moved the count to Frisbee Hill where we stayed until
around 2:30pm. There wasnt a concentrated flight line, however there was a
steady trickle of birds on the move. We ended the day with a total of 1,142
individuals, mostly Turkey Vultures and Broad-winged Hawks. The highlight
of the day was definitely seeing five Golden Eagles, including three
together! All of them were young birds.

Non-raptor Observations:
Not much of a passerine flight this morning. We saw two distant Sandhill
Cranes from Frisbee Hill and a flock of seven from the park in the
afternoon.
