While the boat slowly made its way back into the mouth at about 1:30 p.m., I photographed distant birds in the waters off of the sandspit. One of my photos revealed a large grebe with a red neck, blocky dark cap descending below the eyes, and white cheeks. Nearby western/clarks grebes, still from a distance, had easily viewable long white necks. A red-necked grebe has previously been in this area. I won’t trouble you with my distant photos."
