Subject: [Ohio-birds] Hamilton county - breeders and shorebirds
I went against my plan…… I hit a place for breeders. Shawnee lookout. Migrants are
Around, but not in any great numbers. Plus I like to hear and see the breeders! Lots!
YT Vireos, WE vireos, RE vireos, Wood thrush - love that song! Cerulean, prairie,
I finally got on Nashville Warbler! Etc. It was cold! Shawnee gets migrants, just
Not like Armleder. I kept looking up for a Broad winged Hawk. No success. Miami
Whitewater has possibilities too. These extensive forest areas.

Hit Lost bridge in the late morning. There’s a nicely flooded farm field there.
And actually the Great Miami is already showing exposed sand or mud. Whatever it
Is. Too early……

I was hoping for terns here. No….. lost bridge is the best spot for them in the county
IMHO. An unexpected surprise was a black crowned night heron! Yea! I have been
Searching for that in the county for a few years now…… they are not rare! But nocturnal
Mainly. There is a spot here that gets them regularly - mill creek. I still want to check
That out over the summer. Lots to explore!

Odes would be nice….. I actually did have some butterflies this cold spring day!

Good birding all.
