We birded today from Whitewood via backroads to St. Onge and BF Reservoir/Orman Dam and returned via backroads and St. Onge cutoff. A very windy day along with snow flurries, and rain. Orman dam is 100% full and gull island is very small. There were no fishing boats today. Sightings were limited to Canada Geese, lots of Gulls, one Pheasant, and a few ducks on the sewage lagoon including Gadwalls, Buffleheads, and Ruddy Ducks. American Robins, Common Grackles, and American Kestrels were in migration today with lots of birds and numerous sightings. Raptors were scarce with only 3 Red-tailed and one Rough-legged Hawks and no Eagles. Our only new FOS sighting for the area was a Belted Kingfisher. Other sighting of interest was one Loggerhead Shrike and several Vesper Sparrows. Two Killdeer were the only shorebird sightings.
At our feeders 1.5 miles south of Whitewood we had one new migrant this week, a Red-naped Sapsucker on Tuesday 4/14. Other feeder birds remained strong.
