Just last night someone asked me if I'd seen any yet. About 7:30 this evening the first one arrived. Given the last three days of extreme heat, I changed the nectar first thing this morning.
Purple finches have been abundant for about a week. More females than males. Nesting got off to a good start. Four boxes are occupied by Bluebirds. Tree swallows are finally getting their act together and have chosen their boxes. They sure do a lot of communal flying around before settling down unlike other birds who pair up rather quickly.
I saw the Brown thrasher again this morning. Still waiting for the Gray catbird.
