Small immature gull, solid black bill, straight lower mandible, broken eye ring, dark legs, smudge behind eye, white crown, gray nape. Prominent white rump with wide black terminal band."

It was superficially like a large Bonaparte’s or Franklins gull, but it had a larger black bill, mottled dark gray underwings, a wide black terminal tail band across the entire tail, a blackish smudge behind the dark eye, with gray back of neck and breast. Several other birders confirmed the sighting."
