Hello Arthur –

A fairly consistent place for Woodcocks is the Frederick White farm in Durham also known as the Durham Fairgrounds.

You can drive down the gravel road and park along the fields just downhill from Maple Avenue. On warm evenings near dusk, particularly in March, you can get quite a show!

I mentioned this to another birder last weekend and according to eBird he visited that night and observed Woodcocks plus a bonus Wilson's Snipe.
