Black-and-white Warbler (Mniotilta varia) (1) CONFIRMED
- Reported Apr 07, 2026 11:10 by Nick & Jane
- Damon-Garcia Sports Field, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.6476746&<ll...>,-120.6476746 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S318461709 - Media: 7 Photos
- Comments: "First-year/adult male. Striking, gorgeous bird with high contrast black-and-white streaking, which shone especially thick with black streaks on upper chest and flanks. Overall, the bird was far more striking, bolder, less dull than the recent wintering female at Meadow Park, which itself was a fun, beautiful continuing bird. This male warbler had a stark black chin and mottled black-and-white throat, black auriculars, white malars, a white eyering, and thick black spots on its undertail coverts—the spots were thicker by base of tail. Even its double white wingbars popped (as did its bold head and back streaking). Its white undertail had a black base and black edges. Definitely the coolest and most impressive black-and-white specimen I’ve seen. It was crawling on trunks near the bridge between soccer fields (35.2510955,-120.6474989). At times it was with the orange-crowned warbler. Photos—though I wish they were as interesting as the experience."
