Hello all
I noticed information is missing regarding camping in the Fayette area.
The Volga River State Recreation Area offers two campgrounds. The
campground along the Volga River is a primitive campground offering water
and pit toilets. This is an equestrian campground. I have camped there
twice and found it very peaceful, just know you will be camping with
horses. I have not been there is the Spring, but I can imagine between the
trees and river it must be a great warber spot.
The modern campground (Lakeview Campground) has modern (and clean) showers
and restrooms. It is uphill from the lake and does not offer a view to the
lake. I have only driven through it (and stopped to use the restroom). I
have walked the trail along the damm - nice walk.
I have visited the primitive campground at Echo Valley. A beautiful spot
along the river, but also close to the road. I think there are only 4-5
spots and it may be first come first serve. I would have loved to camp
there, but I often camp by myself and it felt like an area that teenagers
might use as a night time loop through the park.
I have contacted the city for reservation information for Klock's Island
Park Campground. It has good reviews on Goggle maps. It is 7 minutes from
the college. Volga is 14 minutes from the college.
Hope this helps anyone looking for a camping site
