4/1 Milford, Connecticut Audubon center, 10am-1PM. overcast, 65F midtide-rising. Our ospreys have returned! Male returned on 3/24 and female on 3/25. They were both on the nest platform today. Male had brought in a fish and the female was consuming it sitting on the pole, plus the male brought in a couple of large branches. Welcome back! Several first time visitors today and classes. On the marsh: about 200 Brant around 10am, and then they dispersed, 6 Canada Geese, 2 Mute swans, 6 American black ducks, 3 Red breasted mergansers,1 Snowy Egret further out, 1 Bufflehead, 7 Ring billed gulls, 7 Green winged teal. On the grounds & feeders: 8 Mourning doves, 6 House finches, 2 Song sparrows, 12 House sparrows, 2 Blue jays, 2 Northern Cardinals, 7 Common grackles, 2 Red winged blackbirds, 2 Tufted titmice, 1 Cowbird, 1 Northern mockingbird and a pair of Mallards that were feeding under the back bird feeder; male had a silver band on his left leg with partial number "126" -that one of our teachers could see. Mallards went into the marsh and kept returning to feed under the bird feeders. Bev Propen, Orange
