Official Counter: Jerry McWilliams
Observers: Carolyn Sturdevant, Jerry McWilliams, Julie Leonard, Katie Andersen
Visitors: Carolyn Sturdevant, Julie Leanard, and Katie Andersen assisted for part of the count. Visitors included Brian Berchtold, and Ken
Weather: Variably cloudy early becoming cloudy then a few sprinkles. SW wind switching to west wind around mid-day.
Raptor Observations: Vultures started moving at sunrise, but the flight was light and sporadic until about 1000 hrs. EST when over 600 vultures were in the sky at once. The flight remained steady and heavy on a well-defined line until the winds started coming off the lake around 1030 EST then the flight shifted to the south and out of sight. This is what has been happening for the past week or so, with the wind shift around mid-day shutting the lakeshore flight down. I am sure many have slipped past us well to the south with the winds off the lake. Hawk numbers were very low again, with the few seen, very high.
Non-raptor Observations: There was a good westerly flight of American Robins. Other migrants seen were Double-crested Cormorant 20, Northern Flicker 15, Tree swallow 3, Barn Swallow 1, Eastern Phoebe 1, Killdeer 6, Bonaparte's Gull 4, Ring-billed and Herring gull, European Starling, Red-winged Blackbird, common Grackle, Brown-headed Cowbird, American Goldfinch 2, American Crow, Blue Jay, Mourning Dove, Wood Duck 2Jerry McWilliamsErie, Erie County, <Pa.jerrymcw...>
