Subject: [sd-birds] Spring Migration in Southeastern South Dakota

I have been impatiently waiting for spring migration, and the time has
finally arrived. Of course, the waterfowl is abundant in the area
despite the drought conditions. I have seen Trumpeter/Tundra Swans at
the Lake Andes National Wildlife Refuge this past week. They are too
distant to identify. Here are some other first-of-year birds that I've
seen in the last week: American White Pelicans, Wood Duck, Mourning
Dove, Blue-winged Teal, Song Sparrow, Great Blue Heron, Sandhill Crane,
Killdeer and Yellow-headed Blackbird. I have been seeing more American
Kestrels around lately and the Sandhill Cranes have been flying over
town these last few days. Here are some photos that I've taken lately. I
hope you're able to be out on these nice days!
