Subject: Re: [ia-bird] 3000 Snow Geese Boone Co.
Cone March WMA outside of Conesville yesterday afternoon/evening had tens
of thousands Greater White-Fronted Geese, along with some Snow Geese and at
least 2 Ross's Geese and a few Cackling Geese also mixed in with the Canada
Geese. Trumpeter Swans in the 500 range, and at least one Tundra Swan mixed
in. Sandhill Cranes, Killdeer, and more Red-Winged Blackbirds (with some
Rusty Blackbirds, Brown-Headed Cowbirds, and Common Grackles mixed in) than
I have ever seen - conservative estimate of 100,000. Every tree was full at
dusk (see photos). I also enjoyed a gorgeous sunset with a family of
muskrats playing in the water nearby.

In community and birdy joy,

Cat
