A few of us ventured out on this rather windy day to explore the refuge on its first day of being open to the public.Besides the thousands of geese and ducks (with Redhead, American Wigeon and Blue-wing Teal being in the mix), there is an immature dark ibis on the south side of Huntsman Rd. It appears to have a red iris and pinkish facial skin emerging, making it the more expected White-faced Ibis. Gee whiz, what is it doing here so early? They usually don't start showing up in White County until early April. It was initially found by Jonas Marks earlier this morning, and we eventually were able to relocate and photograph it. It has been feeding alongside the grassy road that runs south of Huntsman Rd (between Birch Pond and the silos). Patty McLean and Michael Linz The Roadrunners
