Crested Caracara (Caracara plancus) (1)
- Reported Feb 24, 2026 11:58 by Herb Elliott
- Turri Road, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.7948498&<ll...>,-120.7948498 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S303600618 - Comments: "I arrived at the scene just as a group of birders were observing the bird from a distance, (Ronald Beck had it in scope) watching as it drifted south. My vantage point was at coordinates (35.313293, -120.775248), and the bird was last spotted heading south near (35.305612, -120.764557). Before my arrival, others had seen the bird perched on rocks near the first bend and by the reservoir on the north side of the road. Although my views were brief, lasting around 90 seconds, and somewhat distant, I managed to make out the pale throat, vent area, and primary covert patch, which stood out against its overall dark brown plumage. The bird’s flight seem flat, heavy, steady, with slow wingbeats. I didn't have a camera with me. Others, however, were able to capture great images when it was perched closer. First reported by Ronald Beck earlier this morning."
