Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Swainson's Hawks in Borrego Springs
This evening (Wednesday February 25) at least 25 Swainson's Hawks arrived
in Borrego Springs at 5:55pm. They settled into the Date Farm (Eucalyptus
Trees) off Borrego Valley Rd. (1.8 miles north of Palm Canyon
Drive) Tomorrow, the hawks may take off between 7 and 8am with moderate
wind. If the wind dies down before sunup they might leave after 8 a.m. The
hawks might seek food in the flower fields (White-lined Sphinx Moth
caterpillars) or flying ants. Some grasshoppers have been sighted but not
many.

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://sandiegofieldornithologists.org/san-diego-county-avian-records-database/.
