Hello...
I was lucky enough this afternoon to get home just before a huge river of sandhill cranes moved over my house. So yay to working late.
From 4:50 to 5:10 there were 2 rivers of sandhills passing over. The first river was right down my street and many of the groups were low enough I could see their necks and feet with my naked eye. Later they changed their trajectory and were passing behind my house at an angle.
It was an awesome sight watching the waves coming over. Even more fascinating was looking at the waves over lapping so it was like looking at overlapping W's spread through the sky.
The first river was very noisy. The 2nd river was quieter. I'm sure I did an undercount but I reported 1823 sandhills on Ebird.
I did wonder if they were going to make it all the way up to Lake Allatoona and if the water level was low enough for there to be mudflats.
Fingers crossed others got to see and hear the sandhill crane rivers that passed through today.
