This afternoon Joan Smyth found two adult male Harlequin ducks at Hammonasset Beach State Park in Madison. The birds were swimming and feeding at the tip of the jetty at Meig’s Point, near the large rocks.

Being fairly far out, a scope was required to identify them. I wondered whether these might be the same two birds that visited Hammonasset near the end of March last year.

Hopefully they will stick around and others will get to enjoy them!

A bonus male Northern Pintail was swimming closer to shore, providing another beautiful duck to observe on this chilly afternoon.
