I have had what appears to be a tan-striped White-throated Sparrows visiting my yard in North Goleta regularly over this winter in addition to a striking white-striped adult (see photos). I’m not sure about this ID because apparently it is difficult to distinguish a tan-striped adult from an immature white-striped morph. I’m basing my tentative ID on the light streaking on its underside - immatures have more extensive/heavier streaking. These two morphs are genetically and behaviorally distinct including having different reproductive strategies. Interestingly, they tend to pair with the opposite color morph for breeding (Wikipedia).
