Sutro was still unusually quiet this morning, though the Surfbird count went up to four, the highest I've seen this year. Out over the ocean, a first year male Long-tailed Duck flew by heading into the Gate, showing lateral white bands on its back, and an adult male Gadwall flew in and landed in a Surf Scoter flock, where it sat for many minutes before taking off into the Gate in company with a female scoter. At North Lake, I had just refound the wintering Tennessee Warbler at the wooden bridge on the southwest side when Theresa and Matt arrived, and Theresa then spotted one of the Wilson's Warblers that haven't headed south this winter. At Mallard Lake, the catbird was still on the island, and at the east end of the AIDS Dell, the returning Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was in the heavily drilled tree across from the tennis courts.
