Through the bitter cold there has been a male Eastern towhee at my feeder. Saw him again this afternoon so thankfully he survived the worst of the cold.
The deer have also arrived at the feeder and clean out the entire tube of black oil sunflower seed within 15 minutes.

The paracord is heavy enough that it won't blow around too much, but creates enough of a physical "obstacle" to the bird to make them not think it's a clear opening. Something dark like black or dark brown blends in nicely and doesn't look weird.

Is there a product that you would recommend to put on the outside of a window? I've looked at American Bird Conservancy's website, and am considering purchasing ABC BirdTape 2" Squares from Bird Friendly, which was one of the links on that website. Any opinions on that product or other recommendations?

You have to apply from outside of window. Yes, you can see them on the window but the trade off was worth it and my experience was incredible.
