2/4 Milford, Connecticut Audubon Coastal Center. 10am-1PM, sunny, marsh frozen except far out by Housatonic, 28-34F. We had a bunch of human visitors today who braved the cold weather. One couple was curious about our whelk egg casings and shells, so we gave them a brief introduction to the whelks. As usual, Franklin the diamond backed terrapin was a hit. Waterfowl and birds viewed from inside the building with a scope and from the porch. On the marsh (near Housatonic): about 100 Canada geese, 25 American Black ducks, 4 Bufflehead (probably more), 3 Gadwall, 1 Red breasted merganser, 10 Mute swans, about 45 gulls , 1 Common Loon, 1 Northern harrier coasting over the marsh. On the grounds & feeders: 1 Raven, 1 White breasted nuthatch, 8 Mourning doves lined up on a branch, 6 White throated sparrows, 5 Song sparrows, 25 House sparrows, 4 Cardinals, 4 Tufted Titmice.
