Subject: [sbcobirding] Oystercatcher score
I had scored the oystercatcher yesterday, as did Dave. Both of us came up with 28, with possibly a generous 29, which is at the upper end of the hybrid range. Problematic birds like this occur fairly regularly in the way upper 20's, possibly just barely making it to an "acceptable" 30 or 31. Anything above that is quite rare. The Jehl Scale is a good, helpful tool but it is just that, a tool. All of this is slightly artificial.
