Subject: [sbcobirding] American Oystercatcher
A couple of us scored the Jalama Beach oystercatcher on the Jehl scale,
using Sophie's photos from her ebird checklist:

The Jehl scale is used to help differentiate between "pure" American
Oystercatchers and hybrids. It's a bit tricky to use. I scored it as a 32,
and Daniel Farrar got 34 +/- 2. This puts it within the range of American
Oystercatcher (30-38). If you want to try it for yourself, here's the Jehl
