Hi Birders,
As most of you have heard, California's first statewide Bird Atlas launched on January 1st, 2026 and will run through December 31, 2030.
If you haven’t already, please join the project on the dedicated *California Bird Atlas eBird page ( https://ebird.org/atlascalifornia/home )* and begin submitting all of your checklists through the Atlas. Our short *Quick Start video* ( https://www.youtube.com/shorts/8Z3kbqiO9rw ) will walk you through getting set up.
We’ve been blown away by the enthusiasm for the project across the state. As of the most recent update, here are the *statewide stats* :
* *14,554* checklists submitted through the Atlas
* *2,323* Atlas blocks with checklists
* *1,192* Atlasers have submitted checklists to the project
* *57* counties with Atlas data
I wanted to provide a quick Los Angeles County-specific update.
Still have questions? Please reach out to us at *<info...>* , and our team will be happy to help. We are developing additional outreach and educational resources, which will be announced soon.
It’s been incredibly inspiring to see the birding community come together in support of this initiative, which will help drive bird conservation for decades to come.
Happy Birding and Happy Atlasing,
Van Pierszalowski
