King Eider (Somateria spectabilis) (1)
- Reported Jan 24, 2026 15:09 by Alex Harman
- Pasadena Park Beach, San Luis Obispo, California

- Comments: "Continuing female. All the ducks were fairly stirred up this evening from hunting, around 4:05 I saw it fly past the beach from east to west, about as far offshore as the wooden platform where it usually sleeps. Cinnamon brown duck, though a bit less saturated than a CITE, and shaped more like a scoter with a robust body and shorter neck. Slanted bill. Pale underside of the wings visible, concentrated near the “armpit”. One poor photo where it’s flying away from me, but it shows a brownish bird with white underwings, though the amount of white is a bit exaggerated by the lighting."

- Comments: "Continuing bird at previously reported location (Seth Greene - 1.14.2026) was observed briefly foraging and calling from California Coffeeberry. This bird called as we walked along the trail and very brief views in deep shade revealed a bird about the same size as a California Towhee with gray body, dark cap and long tail."
