This is the Los Angeles Rare Bird Alert for January 22, 2026.


A male BARROW’S GOLDENEYE continued at Quail Lake through January 13.

A GREATER ROADRUNNER continued along the east side of the Los Angeles River in Long Beach through January 18. It was last seen near Spring Street, north of Willow Street.

Two MOUNTAIN PLOVERS were at the A&G Sod Farms in Palmdale on January 19. This is private property. Bird from the road only.

A SOLITARY SANDPIPER continued at Hansen Dam through January 19 at the temporal pond by the lower parking area off Dronfield.

Another SOLITARY SANDPIPER continued along the Coyote Creek Bikeway in La Mirada through January 21.

An ANCIENT MURRELET was at the Ballona Creek mouth in Marina del Rey from January 14-17.

A BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was briefly on Playa del Rey Beach on January 17.

A LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL continued at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas through January 16.

Another LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULL was at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera through January 17.

A ZONE-TAILED HAWK was in Monrovia (vicinity of Encinitas and Greystone) through January 21.

A WILLIAMSON’S SAPSUCKER was at Brand Park in Glendale from January 13-16 near the library.

A NORTHERN “YELLOW-SHAFTED” FLICKER continued at the Rio Hondo Spreading Basins in Pico Rivera through January 19.

The DUSKY-CAPPED FLYCATCHER at Vincent Lugo Park in San Gabriel was reported through January 19. It typically frequents the southeast area of the park.

A TROPICAL KINGBIRD was at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach on January 16.

Another TROPICAL KINGBIRD continued at Cabrillo Beach through January 17.

And another TROPICAL KINGBIRD was at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera through January 17.

The THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD in Griffith Park along the Mineral Wells Trail was reported through January 18. Google Maps 34.1394, -118.2881. A HEPATIC TANAGER was in the same area through January 15. A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was present through January 17. One or more SUMMER TANAGERS also continue here.

Another THICK-BILLED KINGBIRD continued by the Griffith Park Merry-Go-Round through January 19.

The GREATER PEWEE continued in Monrovia Canyon by the Nature Center through January 18. Google Maps 34.1774, -117.9910.

A WESTERN FLYCATCHER continued at Lacy Park in San Marino (near the maintenance yard) through January 13.

A BELL’S VIREO was at Rio de Los Angeles Park on January 17.

A CASSIN’S VIREO was at Vista Hermosa Natural Park in Los Angeles through January 16.

A GRAY CATBIRD was at Sage Hill on the UCLA campus through January 20. Google Maps 34.0741, -118.4550.

Two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS continued at Descanso Gardens, with others along the Los Angeles River (east side above Willow Street), in Big Santa Anita Canyon above Arcadia, at the Kenneth Hahn SRA in Baldwin Hills (Japanese Garden) and at the San Gabriel Coastal Basin Spreading Grounds in Pico Rivera.

A SWAMP SPARROW was at DeForest Park in Long Beach (southern section by the small pond) on January 21.

A GREEN-TAILED TOWHEE and a BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER continued by Monte Verde Park in Lakewood through January 18.

An ORCHARD ORIOLE was on San Clemente Island (no public access) from January 16-21.

A BALTIMORE ORIOLE was at Elysian Park from January 2-19, with two present on the latter date. Google Maps 34.0845, -118.2472. A DARK-EYED “PINK-SIDED” JUNCO was in this area as well through January 18 and a TENNESSEE WARBLER was there through January 21. A SUMMER TANAGER was observed from January 17-20.

Two BALTIMORE ORIOLES were at Kenneth Hahn SRA in Baldwin Hills on January 16 at the Japanese Garden. A HAMMOND’S FLYCATCHER was here on January 17.

A SCOTT’S ORIOLE was in the Antelope Valley near Valyermo on January 18.

Three “BICOLORED” RED-WINGED BLACKBIRDS were at Quail Lake on January 13.

An OVENBIRD continued along the lower Los Angeles River near Willow Street through January 21. Google Maps 33.8064,-118.2043.

BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLERS were at Athens Park in Los Angeles on January 12, at Cabrillo Beach on January 18, at Occidental College in Eagle Rock on January 18 and along Haskell Creek in the Sepulveda Basin on January 19.

A LUCY’S WARBLER continued around the lake at SoFi Stadium through January 14.

The CAPE MAY WARBLER at Loyola Marymount University continued through January 18. Google Maps 33.9685, -118.4176.

A NORTHERN PARULA continued in Rolling Hills Estates Canyon through January 14.

The CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER on the USC Campus continued through January 21. Google Maps 34.0210, -118.2861.

A PALM WARBLER continued at Belvedere Park in East Los Angeles through January 14, last seen near the Sheriff’s parking lot.

Another PALM WARBLER continued along the Los Angeles River (east side south of Willow Street) in Long Beach through January 12.

A GRACE’S WARBLER was at Wardlow Park in Long Beach through January 15, last seen by the baseball diamonds.

The BLACK-THROATED GREEN WARBLER at William Andrews Clark Memorial Library continued through January 21.

A PAINTED REDSTART continued at San Dimas Canyon Park near the restrooms through January 21 near the east restrooms. A ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK was here on January 19

Another PAINTED REDSTART continued at Chavez Ravine in Elysian Park through January 18. It moves around a lot but is often in this area 34.0848, -118.2450.

SUMMER TANAGERS were at the Whittier Narrows Nature Center in South El Monte through January 17 and at Arroyo Pescadero Park in Whittier on January 16.
