Subject: [LACoBirds] PSA - Documenting rare birds
Good morning,

During this busy season of ebird rare bird review, I'm grateful for
observations that include field notes describing key features of a bird
and/or photo/audio files. These documented records streamline the review
process and strengthen the quality of the data. Birding often broadens our
senses as we learn to see and hear more. Drafting notes of what we see and
hear reinforces and sometimes expands this learning. The discipline of
drafting notes helps us especially when we encounter something new or
different... a previously unrecorded rarity, a plumage anomaly, an
unfamiliar vocalization, a species we haven't seen before, a hybrid bird, a
weird gull, etc.

Thank you!
Chris Dean (one of the busy ebird reviewers for LA County)
