Since 2009, dedicated field birders from all over the Hudson-Mohawk Region have taken part in the "Fun Run", an annual challenge to find as many species as you can in NYSOA Region 8 (the 11 counties of the Hudson-Mohawk Region centered on Albany). The Fun Run is a great way to encourage yourself and others to get outside more and look for birds. Whether you bird around your yard and neighborhood or search the far corners of our region looking for new species, you are welcome to participate! In 2025, the group collectively found 236 species in Region 8, topped by Naomi Lloyd at 213 species, and Kate Schnurr at 212. Over 17 years, 313 species have been found in the Region, and new species keep being added to the cumulative list nearly every year.
