Date: 1/16/26 2:22 pm From: Trent R. Stanley via groups.io <trent...> Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Pair of Summer Tanagers at the Zoo (M & F)
While scouting for the CBC, keeper Caitlin Morrow and I were doing our best
to keep tabs on three Summer Tanagers at the Zoo: an adult male and female
in the vicinity of the Lower Duck Pond, and a splotchy young male at the
Reptile House. All three failed to appear on the day of the CBC...
Today (1/16), around noon as I was leaving, I heard two SUTA pi‑tucking
calls from the pines just west of the Lower Duck Pond, and I saw the bright
red male and yellow female together. Not exactly a major rarity anymore,
but it’s the first time I’ve ever seen a male and female together in San
Diego. (32.73335, -117.15411 <https://maps.app.goo.gl/ngw7ZmyPofUSbVUa7>)
