On yet another crisp, beautiful morning at McClellan Ranch in Cupertino, 13 birders and bird-curious community members joined us at the monthly drop-in birding event hosted by Peg and myself here at the Santa Clara Valley Bird Alliance headquarters. Noisy in the very best way, our early morning start in the 40 degree weather was rewarded with breathtakingly close-up views of species like: Steller’s Jay Pygmy Nuthatch White-Breasted Nuthatch Spotted Towhee Bewick’s Wren Chestnut-Backed Chickadee Dark-Eyed Junco Sparrows galore (Golden-Crowned, White-Crowned, Song) And several friends who were enjoying the trees along the periphery including: Acorn Woodpecker American Robin European Starling A whopping 26 species at this stationary event!
