As many folks know well (especially those living farther north in San Diego Co.), the numbers of over-wintering orioles, tanagers, and rare warblers is almost always highest in (southern) South County, north to about Mission Bay and La Jolla, and then declines farther to north in the county. Certainly plenty of pleasing exceptions to this rule of thumb, but in general it holds almost every year. As an example, here's a few hours of January birding at several parks in the southern South County:
Also, a Vermilion Flycatcher and the continuing Costco Black-thr Green Warbler.
