Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Entry passes - state parks, county parks
At the beginning of each year I usually post a reminder about passes to
various locations. I strongly encourage everyone to support our local parks
by paying the appropriate fees. I did not look up the actual fees just now,
so there may be some changes since I posted this last year!

*Senior Golden Bear Pass - State Parks/Forests*

- $20

-age 62 and older

- good for one calendar year (2026 is up next)

- free entry for off-season state parks/forests (so state
beaches, mountains free during winter)

- purchase in person in Carlsbad or on Pacific Highway

*San Diego County Parks - Parking Pass*

- The following passes apply to Day-Use only. Passes do not apply to
camping/extra vehicles.
- Family Pass to all County parks – $40/year for San Diego County
residents
- Family Pass to an individual park - $25/year for San Diego County
residents
- Senior (62+) – FREE for San Diego County residents (Perpetual Parking
Pass – good for lifetime use)
- Disabled – FREE for San Diego County (a current California Disabled
placard will be honored in lieu of a pass at all regional day-use parks)
- Purchased in person at the County Parks and Rec Dept at 5510 Overland
Dr suite 207 (Go up the elevator and turn left)

*America the Beautiful – National Parks Pass*

$82 but good for life

- Age 62 and older

- Good for National Parks, Monuments and Forests – this includes
parking in the Laguna Mountains, day use at Observatory Campground, Fry
Creek Campground, etc.

*National Forest Adventure Pass*

National Forest pass – $30 per year - sold at sporting goods
stores and the Laguna Store. In the

past, if you purchased one at the Laguna Store, you could buy a second one
at a deep discount,

so bring a friend! This pass is good at all National Forests in Southern
California.

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://sandiegofieldornithologists.org/san-diego-county-avian-records-database/.
