All - I received the final report for the Statewide Tricolored Blackbird survey completed last April. If you want a copy of full report let me know but here is part of the executive summary which shows a slight uptick since the last survey:
The 2025 Tricolored Blackbird Statewide Survey was conducted 18–20 April
2025. A total of 33 county coordinators and 130 participants surveyed 915
locations in 39 California counties. The survey covered more locations, including
40 new colony locations, than any previous statewide survey. Together, surveyors
estimated a statewide tricolored blackbird (Agelaius tricolor) population of
229,000 adult birds at 170 locations. This estimate represents a 5% increase
over the estimate from the 2022 statewide survey and a 58% increase over the
lowest statewide survey estimate of 145,000 birds in 2014. Although these
numbers are encouraging and suggest an increasing trend, the 2025 estimate was
still only 58% of the 395,000 adult birds estimated during the 2008 survey.
