Greetings Birders,
The Santa Barbara CBC held last Saturday, January 3rd, 2026 was truly one for the record books! The weather was quoted by some as the worst and most challenging they’d ever experienced on a CBC. Rain, very high winds, flooding, road closures - you name it! Of course, this seriously impacted our total species count, which would have been significantly lower if not for the admirable and I’d say heroic efforts of so many talented birders. Our preliminary count stands at 179, with a few species needing further documentation. If you participated and submitted an eBird checklist, please double check that you shared the list with eBird user “sb-cbc”.
More details will be shared soon, but don’t forget that today is the last day of count week. We encourage you to look for the birds we missed (shared by Glenn a few days ago).
