Morningside Park, upper-west Manhattan, N.Y. City -
Monday, December 22 -

For sort of a last day of Hanukkah gift -and an avian gift to all- a Western Tanager showed very well before mid-day Monday, thanks to finder K. Fung, and with multiple observers later as well, in part thanks to rapid alerting - this tanager was around the pond area in the lower - eastern part of the park, not far from 112th St., and was noted hawking some insect life on this sunny Monday with temps rising above the freezing temp rather early. The tanager put in some time on the tall, broad rock face at the rear of the pond, as seen from the main path alongside. A Nashville Warbler was a continuing presence also within Morningside, having shown well on Sunday also.
…
Elsewhere in Manhattan, a now long-lingering Yellow-throated Warbler continued its stay at and near Carl Schurz Park, that latter bird esp regular nearest about E. 85th St., sometimes by the Catbird playground entry trees, or closer to the avenue, or on the west side of East End Ave., near E. 85th where a tall apt. building has had netting covering it during long-lasting outdoor facade type work. At times, this warbler may require some patience.

Good birding,

Tom Fiore
