Subject: [northbaybirds] Point Reyes Christmas Bird Count - Dec 20
Over 170 people participated in the 55th Point Reyes Christmas Bird Count on December 20.  We were very lucky to have mostly dry, somewhat foggy, but calm conditions that allowed the counters to cover the 28 areas within the count circle. Some reports have not been received, but highlights included: NORTHERN FULMAR and MARBLED MURRELET along the ocean beaches, two BARN SWALLOWS at Limantour, CASSIN'S VIREO near Olema Marsh, WINTER WREN and WESTERN FLYCATCHER near Marshall Beach, over a dozen BLUE-GRAY GNATCATCHERS, over fifty SWAMP SPARROWS mostly along the southern edges of Tomales Bay, individual BLACK AND WHITE, WILSON'S and BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS near Olema Marsh.  Our tentative species total was 187, not as high as we usually find, but much better than the 2024 count that was impacted by extremely high winds and driving rain.                                                                                                 - David Wimpfheimer, count complier
