I am, at best a causal birder, my list last year was 77 species, the year before 198 thanks to a week in Texas. At 80 I have set my goal is to observe as many birds as possible. I started the tradition many years ago of a new years day hike which this year was going to include birding. Unfortunately my wife was admitted to the hospital on Dec 31st. Missed the Christmas bird count and missed my New Years day hike. Driving home from the Hospital on the first I observed a bald eagle. An auspicious start to the year. On the second I stopped at Clover Cemetery and Wetlands and added a Northern Pintail. I had a few errands to run yesterday near Highbanks Metro parks and spent 10 minutes observing the birds visiting the feeders. Total birds for the year 16.
My wife will be discharged today, so no birding today and possibly tomorrow. My wife is way more important than birds.
