Subject: [SanDiegoRegionBirding] Swainson's Thrush in Encinitas
Yesterday, the 29th, I had a Swainson's Thrush along the back edge of Encinitas Community Park. Photos in my eBird report. This is the fourth winter record of Swainson's in the county, with previous records from Coronado, Chula Vista, and Carlsbad. This bird looks unsteady when it landed on low branches on multiple occasions, which suggests it may be slightly injured in some way or otherwise not well, which would help explain why it is still here in late December. It was finding food OK both in the leaf litter and eating a few toyon berries. A Hermit Thrush is present nearby as well. Hopefully it can make it to the Rancho Santa Fe CBC this coming Saturday.

Elsewhere in Encinitas, there was a Green-tailed Towhee bordering a private HOA park. Green-taileds are much rarer in North County than in southern South County.

The monthly meetings of San Diego Field Ornithologists (SDFO) are currently virtual, open only to members, at 6pm on the third Tuesday of every month.

Two notable on-line resources are available for San Diego birders: the San Diego County Bird Atlas by Phil Unitt (2004) - http://sdplantatlas.org/BirdAtlas/BirdPages.aspx ; and an update of notable records for San Diego County (2002–present), compiled by Paul Lehman - https://bvaudubon.org/birding-resources/ .
