This morning, I scouted the Santa Ynez Apartments (northwest corner of Los Carneros x El Colegio) and a little of the border between Isla Vista and UCSB.
The best bird was a female-type SUMMER TANAGER in ironbark eucalyptus between Ocean Road and Isla Vista, just south of Pardall. It was in what was really the only tree with any significant number of pink blossoms. This area wasn't terribly birdy overall. At the Santa Ynez Apartments, a cluster of ironbark eucalyptus near the west edge of the property had lots of blossoms and a good number of birds, but nothing interesting. Another cluster nearer the eastern edge had no blossoms I could see. Some redgums along the bike path at the southeastern corner of the complex attracted a few birds. I continually heard what sounded like a Black-headed Grosbeak, but could see nothing in that area but Yellow Rumpeds.
