For those planning a future trip to the Berry Park area on Leon Avenue in Nestor to look for the Bay-breasted Warbler, be aware that an adult male Orchard Oriole returning for its second winter is also in the area, and after starting out in Berry Park in late Nov it now mostly frequents the east end of Leon where there are a couple blooming blue gums and especially two or three soon-to-pop coral trees which it loved to frequent last year as well. It often travels around with a female Bullock's. Also in the Berry Park/Leon area currently are Summer and Western Tanagers, Wilson's and Yellow Warblers, and Vermilion Flycatcher.
Another plea for folks visiting Heritage Park in Chula Vista to pay close attention to the identity of the "bright" Cassin's Vireo being seen there, in addition to a more typical Cassin's and a Plumbeous. Whether there are in fact two or three total "Solitary" Vireos present is still uncertain (that is, how many birds versus how many quasi-birds due to different lighting and angles of photos). This brighter bird is sort of in that tweener no man's land overlap of Cassin's/Blue-headed. People's eBird reports of "Cassin's Vireo" will require some level of documentation to be validated.
