Costa's Hummingbird (Calypte costae) (1)
- Reported Dec 31, 2025 13:31 by Pamela Warren
- HSLOCGPW, San Luis Obispo, California
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&<q...>,-120.6861285&<ll...>,-120.6861285 - Checklist: https://ebird.org/checklist/S291472901 - Comments: "Reporting one but believe the one it is sparring with is another Costa's. Same repeat pattern call, compact shape, white eye"line", moving from plant to plant in front yard. Often it was vocalizing while hovering at plant. Small purple patch in center of throat. Could not get clear recording thanks to neighbor's loud construction next door plus 3 Jays that decided to join us while I was recording. Hummer flew after jay at one point. . Will attempt to clean up one recording and submit. I cant tell but it seemed Merlin was trying to report the call as a Golden-crowned Sparrow."
