A quick 23-min stop at Alma Wastewater Treatment plant today revealed 420 ducks of 5 common species. https://ebird.org/checklist/S291441393 Many of the Northern Shovelers were spinning in circles. Birds of the World says ".... frequently observed feeding in groups, stirring up water surface by swimming in tight rotating circles, but lone birds can also swim in tight circles to create whirlpool-like effect, to bring food to surface...." and posted this video of the behavior.
