Thank you, Donna. My comments about this Festival are those you already know:
We discussed this at our last Garland County Audubon Meeting. For a successful festival you have to have field trips to find birds and birds people want to see, not just speakers and equipment booths. The October timing of this is not a good time; many breeding birds are no longer in breeding plumage, and many species have gone South, and the winter migrants have not yet arrived, and you mostly just have the resident species available.
It is the birds that make a Birding Festival and to be successful it needs to be planned when the birds are here and not when they are gone. A better time would be between the last two weeks in April, May and no later than mid-June. To have such a Festival in October I project a disappointment for the organizers.
