On Christmas morning, a visit to Colina del Sol Park (home of the November Prothonotary Warbler) produced a casual-in-winter MacGillivray's Warbler in the north-central section of the park. Location:
https://maps.app.goo.gl/i4GXmmABHiuXGnfE6?g_st=a This area has just scattered brush and hedges, so not exactly scrumptious MacGillivray's habitat, and the bird on a couple occasions actually flew well up into the two pepper trees located at that location. Otherwise, it did stay low, as expected, in various directions from those two peppers. In the more southern section of the park there was a Plumbeous Vireo, very likely a bird that has returned multiple winters here.
In other news, 7 Snow Geese and 6 Gr. White-fronted Geese continue at Sweetwater Reservoir, where there was also an adult "Thayer's" Iceland Gull, continuing Prairie Falcon, and up to 45 Barn Swallows. Bald Eagles have a nest there again this year. At Heritage Park in Chula Vista, where Grace's Warbler and Cassin's Vireo were found on the recent CBC, I had a Plumbeous Vireo (likely returning now for multiple years) on Monday, so be careful identifying "Solitary" Vireos at this site.
